What is the Listening Challenge?
- Over a period of 4 weeks, you will work on your listening comprehension in your chosen foreign language. We will gradually show you several effective methods for improving your listening skills. Our special Weekly Tasks will help you get truly familiar with all of them because you will spend each week focusing on a different listening method!
- You’ll do lots of listening practice so that you can finally understand native speakers, movies, and TV series without subtitles, bringing your language to a whole new level in the long term.

Who is the Listening Challenge for?
- Everybody with at least a basic knowledge of their foreign language can participate – for example, even if you only learned Spanish or French in high school or went to a language school 10 years ago, don’t hesitate to join us! What will the course look like?
- Every week, we’ll ask you to watch one or two short videos (approximately 10 minutes long), in which we’ll introduce one of our methods for improving listening comprehension in a foreign language.
- Your task for the week will be to try the method out and practice it for the rest of the week for at least 20 minutes a day.
- You will keep track of your learning with our great Learner Diary and you will also be able to share your feelings, experiences, and recommendations with others in our special Facebook group.
Which methods will you be using?
- Every week, we’ll focus on one main listening method. We will gradually cover podcasts, YouTube, TV series, and audiobooks. In other words, the 4 main methods from my Language Master video course.
- Are you already familiar with these methods and worried that you won’t learn anything new? Don’t be! I have a few hidden gems ready for you! For instance, I will show you how to display the translation of a word from subtitles by simply hovering over it with your mouse. Or how to find transcripts of YouTube videos, which you can use to learn new vocabulary more easily. And lots of other useful tips!
- I will also introduce 4 complementary websites and apps, which can be great for extra listening practice. What’s more, some of them will also help you improve your reading skills!
Where will the Listening Challenge take place?
- The course will take place in a closed Facebook group with many other enthusiastic learners who have decided to start learning their foreign language in small steps – just like you.
- In the membership zone on the Language Mentoring website, you will find all the videos and instructions for the individual methods, as well as your Learner Diary, which you will use to track your learning.
- Your access to these videos will be lifelong. In other words, you will be able to watch them anytime, even after the end of the month-long course. It’s basically one of the modules of our comprehensive Language Master video course.
How much time will I have to spend learning?

Why should I only focus on one activity –

But there is a big difference between trying to improve everything at once and taking a more gradual approach
… if you focus on all activities at once (which is often the case in schools or language courses), you will only improve a little bit and your progress might be barely noticeable.
